Baby Swimming Lessons – Questions
How old was your baby before you started a mom and baby swimming class?
My daughter is 5 months old and I’m thinking of starting a mom and tot swimming class. Is she too young to start this? The pool near me says newborn and up but I felt she was far too young to start then. Do you belong to a mom and baby swimming group? If so how old was your baby when you started?

I started w/ my daughter when she was about 7 months. She really liked it!! Near me, they didn’t start swimming classed until the baby was 6 months.
It was a lot of fun…we sang songs, played water games and other things to get the babies use to the water.
My daughter is now almost 14 months and we are still taking swimming classes.

My daughter was just 5mths when I enrolled her into her first swim class, she was fine and loved it! They do recommend 6mths but with the class semesters I didnt want to wait another 3 mths before the next lot. She was fine and we regulary go to the pool, I am about to book her into the next semester.

My understanding is that babies should be at least 6 months before you put them in the pool because of all the germs and chemicals.

I was checking into this and every place I have called recommend the baby to be at least 6 months old before enrolling them in a swimming class. I have both my boys enrolled and we start next week. I think it is a good idea to introduce your baby to the water and help them learn to swim.

I asked my maternal health nurse abou this and she said not to take babies swimming until they are 6 months old because they cannot regulate their body temperature and even though the pools are heated they are still not at body temprature and you baby can catch a chill.

For all the classes in my area, babies must be at least six months old.

I have signed my baby up for the next class that starts in three weeks. He will be 5 months and three weeks old when he begins. I asked at the Y if this is okay and they said yes. Please keep in mind that my bay was three months early and only weighs 8 lbs so if he is aloud yours should be too.
Have fun.
